Grids and the Culturally/Psychologically Significant Photo
NO 2020 SESSION  CHECK BACK IN 2021

 9:45 to 5:30 PM

Shoenfeld Santa Fe Studio
Approved for 7 CEU's $175

With the repetitive structure of the grid as a basis, participants will create a series of images in response to a psychologically and/or culturally significant photo.  Including "cultural" issues in this workshop is an addition as of 2018. This is in response to the major upheavals we have experienced related to immigration, funding for services, etc.

As the image is repeated, perceptions and visual boundaries shift. A variety of media will be offered for this evocative and creative investigation of how memory and imagination alter perception and imagery. No previous art experience required. We will work through lunch with a few short breaks, for snacks and beverages: remember to bring your lunch!

The Creative Process - Spring Cycle

NO 2020 SESSION  CHECK BACK IN 2021

Approved for 7 CEU's $175.00
Jane Shoenfeld Santa Fe Studio

For some, early spring inspires wonder, and identification with new life, creativity and a feeling that all is right with the world.  For others the brevity and innocence of early spring evokes a sense of loss. There is a paradoxical quality to this supremely beautiful and all too brief season. Gathering inspiration by making art and (weather permitting) writing outdoors among budding trees and lilacs, we will explore how spring affects our energy, creativity, and insight. Art processes include collage, pastel drawing, and watercolor. Through the expressive arts, group interaction, and stimulating discussion, you will discover how the spring cycle is reflected in psyche as part of personal growth and change. Join us for this creative and fun workshop! No previous art experience needed.

9:45 to 5:15 PM     Fee is $175 Space limited to seven participants.

Approved for 6 CEU's in Ethics   ART MATERIALS SUPPLIED (more info upon registration )

One hour lunch break and short breaks to rest our eyes and move our bodies!

Content will focus on processes and cycles in nature and the environment, which illuminate the processes in the therapeutic relationship and other relationships. We will explore ethical dilemmas, right action and personal and professional ethics through expressive art and writing. We will also address "best practice" issues related to dealing with the impact of the pandemic on ourselves and our clients.

“Coupling ethical issues with situations in nature is a brilliant, helpful and refreshing direction for viewing ethical dilemmas.”

"Working with a specific ethical issue from my practice was so helpful and the final collage with the combination of nature and dilemma in visual form was terrific."

This year Resonating  in the Presence of Nature is adapted to keep us all safe. We will be nourished by vistas of timeless beauty.  Indoor areas will be supervised and organized for social distancing and safe practices.

The workshop will include demonstrations, instruction, and one to one interaction with each particpant. To maintain safe practices, workshop will be limited to seven participants.

Ghost Ranch is 21,000 acres of red rock circled by blue sky. Join us in O'Keeffe Country and immerse yourself in the magic and power of Ghost Ranch.  The workshop schedule includes time to wander in the extrordinary canyons and mesas of the Southwest.

Each day we will paint outside using pastel as the primary medium. We'll also spend time in the studio working with mixed media - including pastel and water based media. Our focus will be on expressing our response to the energy and power of of the landscape through simplification and accessing the imagination. The emphasis is on process versus product.  All levels of experience are welcome.

This is a multidimensional experience leading to an expansion of creative awareness and communication.  In addition, award winning poet and teacher Donald Levering (donaldlevering.com) will offer a hands-on session on ekphrastic poetry.  Ekphrastic poetry is poetry in response to visual art. Working across media, from imagery to word, creates a merging of the senses that expands your awareness and your art. Levering will also be joining us for our morning discussions about the creative process and our practice.

Ghost Ranch is in Abiquiu, New Mexico and is about one-and-a-half hours north of Santa Fe. Basic rate for workshop is $889.00 for Thursday through Saturday nights/singleoccupancy. Fee covers dorm style room/board, studio space, art materials and tuition. Becasue of the pandemic, shared bathrooms will be limited to two persons and sinks, toilets and showers will be assigned.  Inquire about rates for room with private bath.  There is also a small materials fee payable at time of workshop.

art adventures southwest

ABOUT

I started Art Adventures in the Southwest in the mid 90's. For many art lovers, the length of stay in Santa Fe is 3 to 5 days. Although there were and are five day art workshops being offered, these did not allow enough time for a visitor to do anything else while visiting our beautiful state capital. So I decided I would teach half day classes with all the art materials supplied. My slogan was, “Just Bring Yourself.

I work with pastel, which is beautifully vivid, has no drying time and is easily transportable, so the media I loved was a natural for outdoor art classes. Also since I am primarily inspired by nature, I decided to focus on areas that included mountain vistas, southwestern terrain and intriguing old adobe homes with their endearing assymetry. There are many such inspiring places within 10 minutes of the downtown plaza.

When I first started Art Adventures in the SW, I didn't even have a computer. I advertised in New Mexico Magazine and placed cards in the display racks. I did have a web presence that was connected to www.sfaol.com – this was through a friend – and she would fax me inquiries when emails came through to the site. This is my third version of www.skyfields.net. Thank you to Phil and Ann Card who designed my second site and to www.cybernuns.com, who specialize in art sites and designed this one. It's a Joomla site, which means that I will be trained to maintain it. I love that!

Art Adventures in the SW includes residential workshops at Ghost Ranch, Private Instruction in my studio, and Continuing Education in Art Therapy. I also design a variety of workshops for professional groups visiting Santa Fe. I have met so many wonderful people teaching these art adventures. I enjoy teaching and enhancing people's Santa Fe experience. I am very lucky to be working in a field and in a place that I love. Thank you all!
